Taken for Granted

You wake up, roll out of bed, commence in your morning routine to get ready for the day and then you head out the door.
But in the time it takes you to get ready, you come in contact with over a dozen items that are regularly taken for granted.
From the hair brush/comb you used to tame your locks to the coffee mug you sipped to get your morning buzz.
Have you ever stopped to wonder how our culture, our society, the world even, would be different if it weren't something as simple as the fork being invented? Or how about toothpaste?
On a bit grander scale of things, how about all those people who made those things? What about the ones who, all throughout history, have been downplayed, overshadowed or otherwise cheated out of the spotlight because someone else stole their thunder? Because their impact wasn't deemed worthy or fulfilling enough to make it in a high school history book, not even as a footnote.
We all know (or should know, anyway) who invented things that get our attention or made huge advancements in someway (i.e. the light bulb, printing press, cotton gin, steam engine, etc.). The stuff that gets reiterated, over and over and is constantly touted as "historical turning points" for one reason or another.
And that's all well and fine. Accurate. Fair. Maybe, fair.
But how about the "little things"? Those "boring" everyday items we come to accept as permanent fixtures, constants, in our everyday lives. Or those great discoveries someone else wrongly took credit for. So many great people, gone, and history has turned it's back on them.
It has forgotten their worth and sullied their memories.
Those are important too.
We think it's high time they get their day in the sun, so this segment is devoted to things and people throughout history we often overlook as being significant or having had made an impact on our timeline..
Stay tuned to see what we mean.
