First Water Treatment Plant Constructed in the World
Most town and cities of industrious countries today are fortunate enough to have running water and some source of water to rely on. All thanks to the advent of water treatment plants.
The very first was designed and built in 1804 by Robert Thom in Scotland. Water was filtered with sand using a method called slow sand filtration and was then hand delivered to citizens using a horse and cart.
Can you imagine relying on that today? Back then, it was a wonderful convenience and the beginning of a new era that later led to outdoor and indoor plumbing as we know it today, not to mention better, more efficient ways to clean and treat water to be consumed and utilized by the public.
